  • Trail Conditions: During winter, the trails in the Poonhill region can be covered by snow, particularly at higher elevations. This can make the trek more challenging and slippery, requiring caution while walking. It’s important to wear sturdy and waterproof trekking boots and consider using trekking poles for added stability.

  • Fewer Crowds: Winter is considered the off-season for trekking in Nepal, including the Poonhill area. This means you’ll encounter fewer trekkers on the trails, allowing for a quieter and more intimate experience with your family. However, some tea houses and lodges along the route may have limited services or even be closed, so it’s essential to plan your accommodation and food arrangements accordingly.

  • Shorter Daylight Hours: In winter, the days are shorter, and daylight hours are limited. It’s crucial to plan your trekking itinerary accordingly, allowing ample time to reach your destination before dark. Starting early in the mornings and having a flexible schedule can help accommodate the reduced daylight hours.

  • Safety and Preparation: Winter trekking requires extra safety precautions. Make sure to pack a comprehensive first aid kit, carry sufficient food and water, and inform someone about your trekking plans. It’s advisable to trek with a knowledgeable local guide or hire a reputable trekking agency that can provide support and guidance throughout your journey.

It consists of a combination of ascents and descents, with some uphill sections and stone steps. While the terrain can be uneven at times, it is generally manageable and does not require technical climbing skills. • Accommodation and Services: The Poonhill Family Trekking is popular among trekkers, and there are numerous tea houses and lodges along the trail. These provide basic accommodation, meals, and other amenities such as hot showers. Having these facilities available makes the trek more convenient and comfortable for families.
