Overview

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking

Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking offers a mesmerizing adventure that delves into the ancient art, culture, and Tibetan Buddhist way of life in the quaint Tsum Valley region of Nepal’s Manaslu Region. This unspoiled trekking route was inaccessible until the 1990s, making it a unique opportunity to explore the wilderness and biodiversity of the Manaslu Valley while immersing in Buddhist culture and heritage.

Starting with a scenic drive to Soti Khola, the trek takes you off the beaten trails and away from the mainstream Manaslu Trekking Routes. You’ll traverse the complete wilderness, passing through remote and beautiful villages, surrounded by the stunning Manaslu Mountain Chain, including Ganesh Himal (7422 m), Himal Chuli (7893 m), Himlung Himal (7126 m), Cheo Himal (6820 m), and Manaslu Himal (8163m). The trek trail winds through beautiful rhododendron and pine forests, and you’ll cross several bridges before reaching the highest point of the trek route, Larkya La Pass (5160 m), after exploring the Tsum Valley Classic Trekking.

During this trek, you’ll encounter many fantastic sites, but two places stand out: Rachen Gompa and Mu Gompa. These two monasteries are the most sacred in the Tsum Valley region and provide valuable insight into the cultural practices of the area. Along with breathtaking scenery and incredible biodiversity, you’ll also get to observe the Tibetan culture and way of life. Note that this is a challenging trek with steep climbs and long walking days, so prior trekking experience and physical fitness are necessary. The best seasons for the Tsum Valley Larkya Pass Trekking are from March to May and September to November.

Itinerary

The trip begins with your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). Our company representative will welcome you at the airport and then you will be transferred to the hotel for your overnight stay.

We will take you to the UNESCO world heritage site Patan Durbar Square for sightseeing. There you can observe the ancient temples and palaces and admire the art and craftsmanship of the medieval period. During this time, we will arrange the permits and other documents required for the trek.

Today you take a scenic drive along the Prithvi Highway from Kathmandu until Dhading Besi. From Dhading Besi, the dirt road takes you to Arughat and then drives up to the west bank of Soti Khola. If you look out from your windowpane, you can see glimpses of the Ganesh Himal range during this drive. Overnight in Soti Khola.

The trail then passes through numerous waterfalls and drops to the rice paddies before climbing up to the Gurung village of Lapubesi, where you will be staying for the night.

You climb behind a rocky outcrop, where the valley opens, and then you descend to the Budhi Gandaki riverbed. You walk along the rounded stones before climbing over a side ridge and head down to the river. Up ahead you cross Tharo Khola, flowing in a rocky ravine, and make your way to Khorlabeshi. Overnight in Khorlabeshi.

From Khorlabeshi, you trek to Tatopani, where you can experience naturally running hot water. You cross Budhi Gandaki River on a suspension bridge and climb a staircase and then a ridge to reach Dovan. After checking your permits at the check-post, you climb over the ridge to Salleri and then descend to Sirdibas. You cross a suspension bridge leading to the east bank of Budhi Gandaki River and climb up to Philim with the emerging views of Shringi Himal (7161m). The trail then follows the river upstream through the dense forest and makes one last steep climb to reach Namrung. The peaks of the Himal Chuli range look astonishing from Namrung.

After crossing Budhi Gandaki River, you trek through the forest and pass through the stone arch to reach Lihi. Then you cross the bridge over Hinang Khola and pass through the village of Sho to finally reach Lho village. Mesmerizing views of Manaslu Himal (8163m) start to appear as you reach Lho Village.

Today you enjoy a relatively pleasant and interesting trekking experience. After crossing a suspension bridge, you head through the juniper and birch forests and later cross another bridge and climb up across Budhi Gandaki before reaching Samdu village. Up next, you cross a moraine and climb down to another grassy moraine to finally reach Bhimthang, where you stay for the night.

Today’s walk is mostly downhill. You cross a glacial stream and climb over the side of a moraine and descend into the rhododendron and pine forest. You follow the descending trail which hugs Dudh Khola to reach Goa. Inhabited by the Gurung community, Goa hosts amazing views of Phungi Himal (6538m) and Manaslu Himal (8163m). Overnight in Goa.

This is the last day of trekking. First, you cross the wooden bridge and walk through the deep pine forest until reaching Tilche Gurung village. From Tilche, you cross a bridge over Dudh Khola and pass through several checkpoints before reaching Dharapani. Here, you meet the trails of the famous Annapurna Circuit Trek. Overnight in Dharapani.

From Dharapani, a private jeep will take you to Besisahar, the district headquarters of Lamjung district. Passing through many villages and lush hills, you follow the Marsyangdi River throughout your drive to Besisahar. You can spend the evening enjoying the success of your trek and exploring Besisahar.

You take the long drive back to Kathmandu today. The picturesque route will allow you to forget the aches in your body. Upon arrival, you check into your hotel and take some rest. Later, you can head out and explore the markets or chill out at the bars in Thamel.

Today our company van will take you around the valley for sightseeing. You will be observing the ancient durbars and temples in the UNESCO listed world heritage sites Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
