Back home, before taking the plane, in all serenity, we leave with a heavy heart, thinking to come back again to enjoy this beautiful country with Dilu.

Dilu's expertise of the region goes far beyond simply knowing the trails. Throughout our journey, he served as both navigator and cultural ambassador, bringing the landscape to life with stories about significant landmarks and historical sites. His explanations of local village traditions and customs enriched our understanding of the communities we encountered. At lower elevations, he demonstrated remarkable botanical knowledge, identifying edible plants like mulberries and red bayberries, turning our trek into an interactive foraging experience. His ability to answer questions about the diverse wildlife we observed—from domesticated yaks to occasional wild species—added an educational dimension to our adventure.

Beyond his professional skills, Dilu possesses the personal qualities that make for an exceptional guide. His warm personality, sense of humor, and genuine generosity created a comfortable atmosphere throughout our journey. He struck the perfect balance when motivation was needed on challenging sections—encouraging without being pushy. His restaurant recommendations were consistently excellent, and he ensured our overnight accommodations met our comfort standards. We never doubted we were in capable, caring hands.

Dilu's planning abilities became apparent from our first contact through WhatsApp (connected via a well-traveled friend's recommendation). We approached him with only a general desire to trek in Nepal, uncertain about specific routes or timeframes. Through thoughtful questioning about our goals and limitations, he crafted a customized itinerary that perfectly matched our needs. His careful attention to acclimatization schedules and coordination with our travel constraints resulted in flawless execution from our Kathmandu arrival to airport departure.

The Annapurna Circuit delivered everything we hoped for and more. For anyone considering trekking in Nepal, I cannot recommend Dilu Rai highly enough. His combination of expertise, personality, and professionalism transforms a great trek into an extraordinary journey.

Dilu was an excellent guide. He was helpful in every regard, at every stage of the trip and made the trip much simpler and more manageable. First, before the trip - he worked with us to set up a custom itinerary for our 11 day trek, adjusting the itinerary to fit both our schedules and individual travel preferences (e.g. shortening certain portions of the trip as we needed).

During the actual trip itself, Dilu was great company and an indispensable resource – friendly, fun, and with a deep knowledge of both the surrounding nature and local economy. As far as the nature and scenery, I was amazed that during any point in the hike, whenever I would point out a mountain or peek in sight, Dilu was able to name it and explain its significance or history. Similarly, he identified all kinds of plants, crops, greenery and wildlife as we trekked – including many (delicious ) edible wild berries, native growing thyme, edelweiss, bananas, wheat, avocados, and many other crops that I would have otherwise glossed over or not noticed at all. In terms of the local economy, he was also very familiar with and had many connections at local lodges and restaurants in every city and town along the route, which made eating and sleeping arrangements easy. He was also very adaptable during the trip and made adjustments on the fly as the trip progressed (e.g. we realized we’d rather spend an extra day in Pokhara and skip spending a night in Muktinath, he was able to set that up easily).

And interpersonally, he was great company and a great hang! It was fun to joke around with him and also learn a little Nepali and about Nepali culture and history.

Highly recommend. 10/10. Amazing experience, amazing guide.
