While many travelers typically choose flights from Kathmandu to Lukla as their starting point for the Everest region, the high flight costs and the additional inconvenience of flying via Manthali, Ramechhap can be quite a hassle. Instead, consider a simpler and more budget-friendly option – reaching Everest Base Camp from Phalpu.

To start this journey, you can either hire a Jeep for a more private experience or opt for public transport such as a jeep or bus from Kathmandu to Phaplu. The drive takes approximately 7 to 8 hours from Kathmandu. It allows you to enjoy the beautiful views along the way.

Phaplu, located around 5 km from Salleri Bazar in Solukhumbu District, marks the beginning of the Phaplu Chola Pass Trekking route. Phaplu, your starting point, lies approximately 276 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu. You can reach Phaplu either by land transportation or by flying into Phaplu Airport. However, it’s worth noting that flights to Phaplu are relatively scarce, as airlines prioritize direct flights to Lukla due to higher demand. Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 2: Drive to Phaplu and Trek to Salleri (2,390 m)

Day 3: Trek to Junbesi (2,700 m)

Descend from Junbesi and follow the trail along the Dudh Koshi River. Pass through picturesque villages, terraced fields, and rhododendron forests before reaching Nunthala.

Day 6: Trek to Bupsa (2,360 m)

Today, we walk though the Khaling (Rai) Village to descend to Dudh Koshi River. Then hike up to Buksa Danda through the terraced fields, crossing suspension bridges.
Day 7: Trek to Surke (2,290 m)

Continue your trek through dense forests and cross the roaring Dudh Koshi River. Ascend to the village of Surke, surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

Day 8: Trek to Phakding (2,650 m)

Follow the trail to Phakding, a popular stopover for trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp. Pass through small villages, prayer wheels, and mani walls along the way.

Day 9: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

Resume your trek towards Lobuche, passing through Dughla and the memorial area dedicated to climbers who lost their lives on Everest. Enjoy the views of the Khumbu Glacier along the way.

Day 15: Trek to Gorak Shep (5,160 m) and Everest Base Camp (5,364 m)

Trek to Gorak Shep, your final stop before Everest Base Camp. Drop your bags and continue your hike to the iconic Everest Base Camp. Wow… the majestic views of grandeur Himalayas spend all the time exploring the area before returning to Gorak Shep village for the night.

Day 16: Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) and Trek to Dzongla (4,830 m)

Early morning, hike to Kala Patthar for a stunning sunrise view over Mt. Everest, Nuptse, and the surrounding peaks. Descend back to Gorak Shep and continue the trek to Dzongla.

Day 17: Cross Chola Pass (5,420 m) and Trek to Thagnak (4,700 m)

Today is a challenging day. We cross the Chola Pass. Trek through icy trails and reach Thagnak, a small settlement situated near the Ngozumpa Glacier.

Day 18: Trek to Gokyo (4,800 m)

We Continue walking along the Ngozumpa Glacier to reach Gokyo. Gokyo is a mounain village which is situated on the bank of Gokyo Lakes. Enjoy the fantastic views of Cho Oyu (8188 m), – the world’s sixth highest peak.

Day 19: Hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) and Return to Gokyo

Climb Gokyo Ri, the highest point of the trek, for panoramic views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. Descend to Lodge at Gokyo for the tasty breakfast and rest for a while before heading to next destination- Dzongla.

Day 20: Trek to Dole (4,040 m)

Day 21: Trek to Namche Bazar (3,440 m)

Itinerary

Arrive in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Transfer to your hotel, rest, and prepare for the trek. You can explore the vibrant streets of Thamel in the evening.

Take a drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu. From Phaplu, start trekking towards Salleri, the district headquarters of Solu Khumbu. Enjoy the beautiful landscapes and traditional villages along the way.

Continue your trek through lush forests, crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River. Reach Junbesi, a traditional Sherpa village, known for its ancient monasteries and warm hospitality.

Take a rest day in Junbesi to acclimatize to the increasing altitude. Explore the village, visit the Thubten Chholing Monastery, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

Descend from Junbesi and follow the trail along the Dudh Koshi River. Pass through picturesque villages, terraced fields, and rhododendron forests before reaching Nunthala.

Continue trekking through forests and terraced fields, crossing suspension bridges. Ascend steeply towards Khari La Pass (2,830m) and then descend to Bupsa.

Continue your trek through dense forests and cross the roaring Dudh Koshi River. Ascend to the village of Surke, surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

Follow the trail to Phakding, a popular stopover for trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp. Pass through small villages, prayer wheels, and mani walls along the way.

Cross several suspension bridges and ascend through pine forests to reach Namche Bazaar, the bustling Sherpa town and gateway to the Everest region. Enjoyable panoramic views of Everest himalaya and surrounding gigantic peaks.

Spend a day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization. Explore the town, visit the Sherpa Museum, and hike to Everest View Hotel for stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.

Continue your trek to Tengboche, famous for its monastery, the largest in the Khumbu region. Enjoy breathtaking views of Everest, Nuptse, and other peaks from Tengboche.

Descend through rhododendron forests and cross the Imja Khola. Ascend gradually towards Dingboche, a popular acclimatization stop with stunning views of Ama Dablam.

Spend another day in Dingboche for acclimatization. You can take a hike to Nagarjun Hill or Chukkhung Valley for better acclimatization and mesmerizing views.

Resume your trek towards Lobuche, passing through Dughla and the memorial area dedicated to climbers who lost their lives on Everest. Enjoy the views of the Khumbu Glacier along the way.

Trek to Gorak Shep, your final stop before Everest Base Camp. Drop your bags and continue your hike to the iconic Everest Base Camp. Wow… the majestic views of grandeur Himalayas spend all the time exploring the area before returning to Gorak Shep village for the night.

Early morning, hike to Kala Patthar for a stunning sunrise view over Mt. Everest, Nuptse, and the surrounding peaks. Descend back to Gorak Shep and continue the trek to Dzongla.

Today is a challenging day as you cross the high-altitude Chola Pass. Trek through icy trails and reach Thagnak, a small settlement situated near the Ngozumpa Glacier.

 

Continue trekking along the Ngozumpa Glacier and reach Gokyo, a picturesque village situated on the shores of the stunning Gokyo Lakes. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Cho Oyu, the world’s sixth highest peak.

Climb Gokyo Ri, the highest point of the trek, for panoramic views of Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. Descend to Lodge at Gokyo for the tasty breakfast and rest for a while before heading to next destination- Dzongla.

Descend from Gokyo and retrace your steps towards Dole. Enjoy the serene landscapes and pass through traditional Sherpa villages along the way.

Continue descending through forests and reach Namche Bazar. Relaxing and felling victorious! Celebrate the successful completion of the Phaplu Chola Pass Trekking.

Trek back to Lukla, the starting point of your trek. Reflect on your incredible journey and enjoy your last evening in the mountains.
